Scale: Not stated

This is the Yeager-class starship USS Borodin. The Yeager class is a member of the Frankenstein Fleet, a group of kitbashed ships that began to appear on DS9 in its 6th season. The Yeager is a combination of the Monogram Voyager and Monogram Maquis Raider. The Yeager was seen orbiting DS9 in at least 15 different episodes.

Despite the odd shapes involved construction was straight forward. I did have to sand the bottom of the wings so the nacelles would fit. Interestingly, the top of the Maquis Raider is not flat so to get the Voyager saucer section to fit there I cut out a portion of the bottom of the saucer, and that allowed the saucer to fit straight. I did not have an extra pair of Runabout detail parts that are on the studio model so I added a pair of scratchbuilt impulse engines to the back of the ship. I also cut open some of the Maquis kit parts to aid in lighting. I used clear blue Evergreen styrene to back the parts that glow blue. I used a combination of LED strips and 3 and 5 mm LEDs for the lighting.

I painted the model with a paint scheme similar to the studio model but I used more muted tones. I used Model Master Enamels Light Gray, Intermediate Blue and Camouflage Gray, and Tamiya Clear Blue and Red. The decals were a custom set of Voyager decals from JT Graphics. The decals went on with no issues and added a lot of extra detail.

I began this project in April and I finished the model in August, so it only took 4 months to complete. The ship is named for Vasily Borodin, the 1st officer of the Red October. His dying words were "I would like to have seen Montana." The Hunt for Red October is one of my favorite films.
