Scale: 1/4160
This is my version of the Gemini Freighter from the rag tag fleet of the original Galactica series.
The resin kit comes from Timeslip Creations and is only about 4.5 inches/11cm long (it's the same scale as the old Revell Galactica). It is a pretty good basis for a fine model. There are but few bubbles to be filled and there's only little flash to be removed.
Even though the existing details are crisp and nice I wasn't happy with two things. The first are the links between the main section and the thruster and command sections which are weak and look boring and ugly. The second was that the mid section between the containers is very plain and looks somewhat empty.
To improve this I added some kitbashed greeblies which I think give it a much more satisfying look (see construction pictures).
Amongst the detail I added are 4 gun turrets that provide some protection for the ship. The idea behind this is that on the long trip the humans would do everything they could to protect the valuable load of Gemini and thus installed the guns which had been captured in an earlier fight on the way. To provide the extra energy for the guns and extra space for the gunners and other staff that have reinforced the original crew, two of the four inner containers have been permanently attached to the main hull. It's the blue one and the grey one opposite it. One contains an extra reactor and fuel. The other has been converted into extra crew quarters, a larger mess, a sick bay and extra supply stores for food and supplies for the crew (there is no easy acces to the normal freight containers during flight). For camouflage reasons it has been made sure that these special facilities still look just as normal as the other freight containers.
