This is a model of the Battlestar Galactica from the Sci-Fi Channel series of the same name. This little gem of a kit is mastered by Coby Lorang and produced by Alliance models. My copy of the kit was purchased from Federation Models. It finishes at 6-3/4" long.
Though Alliance gets it mostly right, few pits or pinholes, there are some fine details lost where the mold may have been near the end of it’s life. Also the casting in the flight pod recesses is a bit messy when most else is oh-so nice.
The kit is very easy to construct, with only the flight pods needing to be attached. Frankly, Coby did the hard part and it only needs some loving paint. I modified the base included with the kit to be a simple square with the phoenix logo centered. I also added a turned brass antenna spike I purchased from Trilliance.
The paint was all done in Artist’s Acrylics - Liquitex and Golden’s applied in thin washes and light dry brushing over an acrylic-lacquer automotive primer. The colors were gesso (white), mars black, raw umber, payne’s gray, with red and yellow for the markings. Coby provided some beautiful scribing for the Galactica’s flight pod hull markings, so rather than use the kit decals, I painted those by hand. The base was finished in dark bronze, bright brass, and raw umber.
