Quick and easy molds can be made with latex mold paste. Railroad hobby stores all carry it in their landscape area. Just brush it over the part and blow dry it with a hairdryer. Add layer upon layer until it's thick enough to use as a mold. Keep in mind that the molds will be flimsy and won't hold much detail, but these molds are perfect for big parts, such as hulls. If you need to reinforce the mold, make a box and pour plaster of paris over it. It's tricky, but can be done. Use vaseline to separate the plaster into halves so that you can get the part out of the mold without breaking the plaster. |
