The Ships of Babylon 5

Babylon 5 may well have been our last, best hope for intelligent space opera. Everything about this show was different - including the starships. The spacecraft of the Babylon 5 universe were some of the most exotic and imaginative found on any screen. There's amazing variety - from the icy elegance of the Minbari, to the gritty realism of the Earth Alliance, to the pure menace of the Shadows. B5 Starship Reference

Alas, models of these ships have been extremely hard to come by - most of what's out there is unlicensed, expensive, and (usually) inaccurate. Revell/Monogram was the first to get an official license from the show to produce kits. Hopefully they will continue to grow their line of subjects. If you'd like to see more kits, write them and let them know what you'd like to see.

Earth Alliance

Babylon5
The star of the show.

Babylon 5 - Five miles long, inhabited by over 250,000 humans and aliens, the Babylon5 station was intended as a place where differing races could meet, trade, and work out their differences peacefully. Revell-Monogram's kit is the only licensed one available - though AoG will have a white metal mini out soon (before the end of '99).

Starfury
R/M Starfury.

Starfury - The Mitchell/Hyundane SA-43 Starfury has been the backbone of EarthForce's fighter strength since the Dilgar War. Agile and dependable, it is a match for most other race's fighters. Though slowly being replaced by the Thunderbolt Mk3, Starfuries are still widely in service.

Thunderbolt Mk3 - the Starfury's big brother. This craft is the first EA fighter designed to operate inside an atmosphere and in space. It's also faster and more heavily armed than the venerable Starfury. The Spacemam kit is the only one presently available.

Omega-class Destroyer - The pride of the Earth Force fleet. The first new construction after the war with the Minbari, these ships combined the technological strengths of the Hyperion-class with the frame and firepower of the Nova-class - and with a rotating section to simulate gravity, got the endurance to free them for long-duration patrols. No kits are currently made of these ships, though Spacemam is rumoured to have designs in the works.

Hyperion-class Cruiser - The first Earth Force capital ship seen in the series ( Voice in the Wilderness). The Hyperions were the main capital ships used in the Minbari War, and are still in service as escorts 15 years later. No kits are currently made of these ships, though AoG makes an acceptable while metal miniature.
