The SA-23E Mod82 series Twin 'Fury is a rare ship. Practically hand-made per order, each Twin 'Fury is unique. A long boom provides compartments for instrumentation, while extra fuel cells allow long endurance. Acceleration is reduced, but the Twin 'Fury is surprisingly maneuverable. Most are used for electronic countermeasures and drone control in high-threat environments, though deep-scan and armed long-range reconnaisance versions are also operational. Many ECM variants were lost during the Minbari war, where they proved woefully inadequate, though through no fault of design or crew.

The need for armed reconnaisance was sensed when the Explorer-class construction/exploration began operating near the galactic rim. Shuttles, while spacious enough for the voluminous scanning gear, are extremely vunerable to potential threats. The Twin 'Fury can operate for long periods, allowing one pilot to sleep while the other carries out the mission. ECM and controller variants allow a pilot and WSO both to concentrate on their missions.

This Twin is operated from the EAS Vespucci, where it primarily controls planetary descent drones. It also controls practice drones and training procedures for the Vespucci's other fighters and shuttles. The Vespucci will aquire two more Twins and conduct hyperspace beacon research aimed at allowing fighters to conduct search and rescue operations within hyperspace.
