Shinden from Gasaraki

By Todd Wardwell

I have never seen the series Gasakari, but after seeing the review on the Raiden battle armor I had to try out one of these kits. The Shinden kit was the one I picked. It is standard of many mecha kits I have assembled. It went together easy as pie. The assortment of hands and weapons you are left with at the end of construction is excellent. The poseability of this figure is perfect down to the last detail. It rivals that of of some manufactured action figures.

I used a cherry red automotive finish on the unit, which was a stark contrast to the blue it is molded in. I still think blue would be striking, but I painted it in line with an illustration of some "Grey Death Legion" battle armor pictured in the Field Manual Mercenaries book that is put out by FASA for their Battletech line. The joints were done in light grey, while black and white accents were used on many of the baffle structures. The directions were a little hard to read, (japanese) but as usual a moderately dimwitted modeler such as myself was able to stumble through it, (pictures really helped...)

The figure that comes with the armor is decent, and featured with an open-able "neuro-helmet". The details aren't that great on the figure, but at least you don't have that typical puppy dog eyes of some Japanimation subjects. All in all I liked the kit, and the paint job came out pretty well. The decals should just be tossed however, and I am currently waiting for some different ones to put on. The interior was fairly plain and undetailed, as shown in the picture. But the inclusion of the pilot figure hides much of it's short comings. If I were putting this figure into the Battletech universe, it's scale would have to make it an "innersphere proto-mech" it's seemingly too small to be a full fledged mech.

Firing, with standing figure.

With the back open.
