Your Two Cents: Naboo Starfighter

The following are reader's opinions of the Naboo Starfighter made by ERTL.

Overall Rating       Not good at all. You really have to want it bad.
Comments It is accurate but on a tiny scale. The plastic was quite brittle and I didn't really like the crome finish ERTL put on the wings and engines. I love to dirty my models up like they've been in a fight and barely made it home. It's one of the most exciting and appealing things about the StarWars kits of old.

The chrome is very smooth and as shiny and it means that this kit never looks real. Paint just won't stick to it. To dirty it up you must strip it, repaint the crome bits yourself and then weather it. The droid is also shiny but I did get a spray on matt enamel to stick to it and provide enough of a key to paint over.

In the end I felt that it was too fiddly for kids and too simple for experienced modellers. You have to work hard to make this look good and I found the chrome to be the biggest hurdle. A bit uninspiring but then, as I said at the beginning, accurate to the original subject.
