Your Two Cents: Romulan Bird of Prey

The following are reader's opinions of the Romulan Bird of Prey made by Sci-Fi Spaceship Miniatures.

Overall Rating       Not good at all. You really have to want it bad.
Comments This kit is WAY out of scale with the Enterprise & D7 of the same line. You need to get the one from the "3-piece desk set", which is a bit small but better to scale. Its also much more fun to detail.

Overall Rating       Well worth getting.
Comments I saw this kit once, and planned to pick one up but never got to do so. I have built several other SCI-FI Spaceship Models kits and liked most of them fairly well.

I really wanted this one because, unlike every other representation of the Romulan Bird of Prey (except for the FASA metal miniature!), this one is accurate to the original model. Mike McMaster did a set of blueprints way back in the mid-70's... and it appears that he had direct access to the original miniature, because when Wang Cha (sp?), the guy who made the original model, finally let people see it, Mike's prints were spot-on.

FASA chose to follow the McMaster prints (even including the little landing pads on the underside, which Mike invented). And I believe that this kit also followed the McMaster prints, having looked it over in detail once.

There are some complaints regarding scale which I've read here. But the Romulan Bird of Prey was supposed to be much smaller than the Enterprise, and this kit seems to have been made PROPERLY to scale, from what I can tell. If you want a model done to the AMT scale, you'll be disappointed by this model seeming "small," however.

Anyway... if anyone has one of these, and doesn't want it... contact me! :-)
